Yoga for Depression
There was a time when I partied way to much. Hung out with the wrong people. Life seemed fun and exciting yet as fast as it all came, it went. Then I was left alone, feeling empty, with no energy to do anything.
A friend invited me to yoga. At first one class a day was all I really did in a day. Understanding that my body and mind was weakened from to much partying I was okay with that. I lacked any future goals or projects. Yoga became my project. Each new class brought something new. I began to see my body change and mind became a little more clear. I remember the first time I got up into a full bridge pose Setu Bandha Sarvangasana. It was a with great struck I pushed up and held myself in a wiggling backbend with strength and pride.
Yoga helped me feel confident in myself. As my strength grew so did my mindfulness and care for my body. Eating healthy became natural. Having a constant yoga practice along with a healthy diet helped lift me out of a really bad depression. Feeling more confident in myself I joined my schools newspaper, made videos, became a video editor, now I work as a newspaper photographer. My life seems to have a purpose. I work on projects and try my best to give back to the world around me.
Yoga helped me through a heard time. If you are feeling low. Start by doing 20 minutes a day. Share your favorite yoga videos here.
This morning I did this video:
The flow itself is very good morning practice. The instruction is not the best so you need to watch video to follow along.
